This year we decided to let the kids decide what to do for Memorial Day. Caleb and Ava (with a little prodding) came up with the idea to go hiking, so we took them up to bridal veil falls.
We started with lunch at a park just before the actual base of the hike. The kids were so excited. They couldn't wait to finish their lunches and actually get started on their great hike.
Once lunch was quickly devoured, we were on our way. It didn't take long for the excitement to fade a little and concern about making it all the way actually set in (we aren't exactly the picture of being physically fit...shocker, I know!!)
Dave did have to carry Ava on and off most of the way, but I was actually impressed with how well my kids did. They didn't complain too much, and the little bit of complaining went away as soon as they saw the falls.
(yes, that's Oreo on Ava's face...my attempt to stop the whining!)The water was freezing, but it didn't stop them from wading in
(even if just for a few seconds at a time!)
Caleb and Kate were more daring that day. They both waded out for minutes at a time.
The other two were more like me
(that water was too dang cold to get in!!) so Dave carried them out to see the falls.
The babies gave up, but they found another way to play and still have fun. I couldn't get Olivia to even look at the camera for me all day, so I had to take these while they weren't looking.
Caleb got a little too brave for his own good and had to show us that he was "King of the rock".
About 2 seconds after this picture....the King was dethroned (thanks to a slippery rock).
And we were lucky enough to hear this the WHOLE hike back to the car.
All in all, they were pretty good sports. We'll have to go again
(just maybe when they are a little older!!)

Have you tried the grotto? It is an easy(read short) hike for little ones with a waterfall as the reward at the end.

You are such a brave woman - taking 4 small kids up a mountain! It looks like they had a pretty good time, though. I love the pictures and the video of Caleb is hilarious! He's actually pretty nice for falling into freezing water and walking all the way back wet.
You have some great pictures. We actually just went there on Saturday and had a great time! We had the same ending with 2 wet children and home was not close enough!
So fun!! Caleb is so funny-- he reminds me so much of Karson. Your babies are getting way too big!! I can't believe they're almost 2!!
